Going green is the biggest living trend this decade. With more people becoming aware of the hazards of global warming, dwindling resources and an ever-increasing population, the concept of having a greener future is becoming a priority. However, the bad thing about this trend is that not a lot of people know how to incorporate it properly into their surroundings.
Here at Oridow, we try to give our customers and visitors not only the best tips when it comes to uPVC doors and windows but also the best tips for an eco-friendly home. Incorporating the green element into your home is a must, especially if you’ve just become aware of the factors which are contributing to this global problem. However, if you’re a guilty green lover i.e. you’re trying to use green solutions but keep forgetting about them, then not to worry. Here are some tips to help you live in the greenest way possible.
1. Save water with a proper showerhead
Compromise by taking shorter showers, but also invest in a good showerhead. There are great options in low-flow showerheads which can save up to 15-25 gallons of water a day, depending on the number of people using it.
2. BYOB: bring your own bag
It’s much better to bring your own cloth bags along when you go out for grocery shopping. Plastic bags are wasteful, so using these bags or totes will help in a big way.
3. Opt for rechargeable batteries
To stop this bad habit of forgetting to recycle our dead batteries, invest in rechargeable ones. They last longer and are recyclable as well.
4. Carry the water weight
Instead of guiltily buying a bottle because you forgot yours, get in the habit of carrying a reusable bottle around. Made out of stainless steel or BPA-free plastic, these bottles come in different shapes and sizes and are much better for carrying water than a crinkly plastic bottle.
5. Use your road skills
When driving, improve your fuel efficiency by driving near the speed limit. Make sure that the oil and air filters are clean and the tires are inflated.
6. Take the light out
This trick is one which many moms and dads will love doing. Any light wasted, whether through an incandescent bulb or fluorescent is a waste, but instead of scolding your family members about it, simply take the bulb out. You know they won’t remember to turn the bulb off the next time.
7. Upgrade the insulation in your home
Proper insulation results in a smaller gas bill. As an uPVC window manufacturer, we at Oridow tell our customers to see the difference for themselves when it comes to energy efficient and eco-friendly windows and doors for their home. UPVC reduces heat loss by 28% in the winter, and since it’s made of eco-friendly material, it also becomes a very wise long-term investment.
8. Leave your shoes by the door
Leaving your shoes by the door will limit the amount of outside gunk from entering in your home. Think of it as an equivalent to washing your hands.
9. Clothe another
If you’re feeling guilty about having to throw away your old clothes, then use this tip. Instead of letting them end up in a landfill, give them a good wash and donate them to a charity or a thrift store.
10. Reduce the use of Pesticide or Spray
There is a reason the bug sprays are so efficient at killing bugs. Instead of using harmful chemicals in your home, prevent the bugs from entering by sealing any holes in your home and smoothing any cracks that might be causing the bugs to enter.
And here they are. So go ahead and follow these tips and share them with others so that you can live with the satisfaction that you’re doing your part in helping the environment.
